Senator Lee Rhiannon to visit Kiama

Kiama Greens Convenor, Howard R Jones, advises media representatives that Greens Senator from NSW Lee Rhiannon is visiting Kiama on Sunday 25th January to meet with representatives of both the Kiama and Shoalhaven Greens.

Senator Rhiannon will be discussing local issues relating to the forthcoming NSW State Election to be held on Saturday 28th March.Adobe Image

There are many current issues which will play a part in the election and which are relevant to the seats of Kiama and the South Coast. These include a jobs strategy for the Illawarra and Shoalhaven, the impact of the changes to Planning Law in NSW particularly in respect to the community participation, protection of important agricultural land, the draft Illawarra Growth and Infrastructure Plan, transport options for Illawarra and the South Coast and the recent worrying report on Biodiversity Legislation in NSW. No doubt corruption in NSW politics will also be on the agenda.

Senator Rhiannon will be assisting local groups with their responses to some of these issues as well as providing local groups with a view of what we can expect to see from the Federal Government in 2015.

A special feature of her visit will be to re-establish contact with 95 years old Ken O’Hara from Gerringong whose work as a political activist in the 1960’s was a significant inspiration in her early years. Ken will join Kiama and Shoalhaven Greens members and Senator Rhiannon at the picnic area in Seven Mile Beach National Park at about 10am on Sunday.

Following the morning tea, the groups will spend time discussing the matters listed above and take Senator Rhiannon on a guided tour of some of the election hot spots in the area.

The visit will be relatively short as the Senator has further appointments back in Sydney later in the afternoon, however any media representatives wishing to speak to her or attend some of the site visits should contact me on 0404 149 374 or via email prior to Sunday.

Kiama Greens Convenor,

Howard R Jones
